Treatment Methods for Corns
Disease description:
I have developed a corn on my foot and would like to remove it. What are the treatment options for corns?
There are numerous treatment options for plantar warts (verrucas):
1. Topical medications: Over-the-counter corn plasters or salicylic acid patches can be purchased at pharmacies. Apply the patch to soften the affected tissue, then gently scrape away the softened layers with a small blade. Repeat this process—applying the patch, softening, and debriding—until the wart gradually diminishes in size.
2. Traditional Chinese medicine: Crush the kernels of *Brucea javanica* (Ya Dan Zi) and apply them topically; change the application every six hours.
3. Surgical removal: A small blade or pedicure tool may be used to carefully excise the central core (“wart nucleus”) of the plantar wart. This procedure is generally non-irritating and painless when performed correctly; professional foot-care specialists (e.g., licensed pedicurists) can perform this safely.
Individuals with plantar warts should wear comfortable, well-fitting shoes and socks. Women, in particular, should avoid high-heeled footwear.
