Can pockmarks be cured?
Disease description:
Recently, I broke out with many pimples on my face due to “internal heat” (a traditional Chinese medicine concept referring to excessive body heat or inflammation), and then, unable to resist picking at them, I ruptured several, leaving numerous pitted acne scars. Can these be treated effectively?
Acne scars (atrophic scars) are generally treatable in clinical practice. They primarily result from inflammatory acne lesions that have resolved, leaving depressed, pitted scars on the face. These scars are typically asymptomatic—lacking pain or pruritus—and may appear flesh-colored or reddish. For removal, carbon dioxide (CO₂) fractional laser therapy, performed under a physician’s guidance, is an effective treatment option that promotes remodeling and repair of the atrophic scars. Concurrently, adjunctive topical therapy with mucopolysaccharide polysulfate cream and hyaluronic acid gel is recommended to enhance therapeutic outcomes.
