In the early stages of vitiligo, symptoms are not particularly prominent—only light red, irregularly shaped patches of varying sizes appear on localized areas of skin, without accompanying discomfort such as pain or itching. If left untreated, these patches may progress to milky white or grayish white, with clear demarcation from surrounding normal skin. Upon sun exposure, affected areas may become erythematous and painful.
