Skin allergy to paint occurs because paints contain heavy metals and large amounts of volatile, irritating gases. Contact with these substances can easily trigger allergic reactions in the skin and mucous membranes; in severe cases, it may even cause serious symptoms of poisoning. Immediately after exposure, individuals may experience sneezing, rhinorrhea (runny nose), and lacrimation (tearing), along with itching of the ocular and nasal mucosa. Irritative coughing is common, typically non-productive and dry.
