Is it safe for gout patients to eat garlic?
Disease description:
Since my gout diagnosis, I’ve largely avoided using seasonings, and I also eat very little garlic. I’d like to ask: Is it safe to consume garlic during a gout flare-up?
Gout patients can consume garlic, a common seasoning. Garlic itself contains very low levels of purines and is rich in allicin as well as other trace elements. Eating garlic offers benefits such as antibacterial and disinfectant effects and aids digestion. Consumption of garlic does not affect serum uric acid levels in gout patients; therefore, there are no contraindications regarding garlic intake.
