Can people with gout drink chicken soup?
Disease description:
I usually drink chicken soup to regulate and strengthen my body. However, I recently had a gout flare-up and would like to know: Is it safe for people with gout to drink chicken soup?
Gout patients are advised not to consume chicken soup. Purines—found in meats such as chicken and pork—are highly water-soluble; during cooking, a large amount of purines leaches into the broth, resulting in a high purine concentration in the soup. Although drinking soup helps with hydration, it also leads to significant purine intake, which may adversely affect serum uric acid levels.
