Frequent and urgent urination can be evaluated by scheduling an appointment with either a urologist or a nephrologist. When frequent and urgent urination is accompanied by dysuria (painful urination), it typically indicates an infection—possibly due to sexually transmitted infections, stone-induced irritation and secondary infection, bacterial infection, or urethral stricture. In such cases, identifying and treating the underlying cause is essential. If frequent and urgent urination is associated with hematuria (blood in the urine) and flank pain, urinary tract stones are commonly suspected. Conversely, if frequent and urgent urination occurs without any other symptoms, it may indicate overactive bladder syndrome—often caused by involuntary, uncoordinated detrusor muscle contractions. Symptoms can be alleviated with oral solifenacin (Vesicare®). We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health!
