Dr. Cao Zhiqiang

Frequent urination can be caused by various factors, and the following are some common causes:

1. Physiological causes: such as excessive fluid intake, including diuretic beverages like water, coffee, or tea, and increased pressure on the bladder due to pregnancy.

2. Urinary tract infections: the most common types are cystitis and pyelonephritis, which are characterized by symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, and painful urination. Additionally, prostate-related issues such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, urethral stricture, and overactive bladder syndrome can also lead to increased urinary frequency.

3. Pathological irritation of the bladder or urethra: conditions such as bladder stones, bladder tuberculosis, overactive bladder, neurogenic bladder, as well as male conditions like prostatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia may irritate the bladder and urethra, resulting in frequent urination. These conditions are often accompanied by other symptoms such as dysuria, hematuria, and difficulty in urination.

4. Other diseases: endocrine and metabolic disorders such as diabetes mellitus can also cause frequent urination. Patients with poorly controlled blood sugar levels are prone to urinary tract infections, and the kidney's ability to concentrate urine may be impaired, leading to increased nighttime urination.
