Fresh aloe vera can be used to treat mosquito and insect bites. Aloe vera has the properties of clearing heat and detoxifying; applying it to the bite site helps disinfect and relieve itching. There are many varieties of aloe vera, and indiscriminate use may lead to toxicity. If itching at the bite site does not subside or improve after using aloe vera, calamine lotion may be applied instead.
