How to Treat Ingrown Toenails
Disease description:
My nail has grown into the surrounding skin, and I later learned this is an ingrown toenail. How is an ingrown toenail treated?
If no inflammation is present, you may first soak your foot in warm water, then carefully trim the affected nail and disinfect the area with iodophor. If inflammation has developed, topical application of mupirocin ointment (e.g., Bactroban®) is recommended. In severe cases, surgical nail avulsion may be considered—but this must be performed at a reputable hospital. In daily life, maintain proper nail hygiene: wash your hands and feet regularly, and wear well-ventilated footwear.
