I’m 32 years old and female. Since yesterday, I’ve been experiencing persistent itching and discomfort in my buttocks. I’d like to know what might be causing this itching.

Itching in the buttocks may be caused by perianal eczema, which is more common during summer. Scratching with hands can exacerbate the itching. Additionally, allergic reactions to undergarments or sanitary pads (e.g., during menstruation) may also cause itching. Furthermore, buttock itching may be associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection—for instance, genital warts—which can sometimes be accompanied by pruritus.
