Muscle twitching during sleep may be a normal physiological phenomenon, primarily caused by excessive stress, mental tension, or physical exertion before sleeping. However, it cannot rule out certain pathological factors. For instance, patients with hypocalcemia may experience increased neuronal excitability, leading to muscle twitching at night. In addition, epilepsy is one of the common medical conditions that can cause twitching during sleep.
