Can benign prostatic hyperplasia cause blood clots in urine?
Disease description:
Last year, I went to the hospital and was diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Today, when I urinated, I noticed blood clots. I would like to know whether BPH can cause blood clots in urine.
Patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia may experience blood clots in the urine. Enlarged prostate volume and swollen surface vessels are common; provoking factors can cause rupture of these surface vessels, leading to hemorrhage and hematuria. Urine pooling in the bladder may form clots, which can be passed during urination. This is typically not associated with significant pain, but patients may experience difficulty urinating and changes in urinary stream, such as splitting.
