How to treat smegma
Disease description:
Recently noticed an excessive amount of smegma; even though I clean daily, a large amount reappears each time I wash. I would like to know how to treat and cure excessive smegma.
The main cause of smegma accumulation is phimosis, or an overly long foreskin. When the foreskin covers the glans penis for prolonged periods, smegma can accumulate and may easily lead to balanoposthitis over time. If smegma does not cause a urinary tract infection, it can usually be cleaned with plain water and does not require medication. However, maintaining a light diet in daily life, avoiding smoking and alcohol consumption, and refraining from spicy or hot foods can help reduce foreskin secretions. Patients who experience recurrent episodes of balanoposthitis resulting in itching, redness, and swelling of the glans and foreskin should consider undergoing circumcision surgery in the urology department.
