Blurred vision in iron deficiency anemia
Disease description:
A colleague suddenly experienced severe blurring of vision while at work. He mentioned that he has anemia—could iron deficiency anemia cause blurred vision?
Iron deficiency anemia can cause blurred vision. Due to reduced oxygen-carrying capacity of red blood cells, the central nervous system may suffer from hypoxia, leading to symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, and weakness, and even palpitations and shortness of breath. It is recommended that patients with anemia identify the underlying cause early in the course of the disease and correct the anemia by addressing the specific cause.
