Dr. Ding Yu
The recovery time for iron deficiency anemia is typically 2 to 3 months, though sometimes it may take more than six months. Recovery cannot occur if the underlying cause is not eliminated. Without addressing the cause, iron deficiency persists, and even continuous supplementation will fail to achieve recovery. Once the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia is confirmed, oral iron supplements are generally prescribed, such as ferrous succinate, ferrous sulfate, or ferrous fumarate. In addition, increasing dietary intake of iron and other nutrients essential for blood formation is recommended. Foods rich in iron include pig blood, pork liver, chicken and duck meat, lean meats, spinach, and black fungus. High-protein foods such as fish, milk, eggs, and soybeans are also beneficial. Consuming vegetables and fruits high in vitamin C can further enhance iron absorption.
