Can a nose bleed after nasal trauma indicate a fracture?
Disease description:
Last week in the neighborhood, a group of children were playing soccer; I got hit by the ball accidentally while passing by. After the impact to my nose, I had a nosebleed. Could this kind of injury cause a nasal fracture?
Possibly. Patients need to go to the hospital for examinations, such as imaging studies including X-ray or CT scans, to confirm the diagnosis. Mild nasal bone fractures can be managed with physical therapy or ice application to reduce symptoms, followed by gradual recovery. If there is displacement of the fracture or visible deformity, early surgical reduction is recommended. Nasal bone reduction surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia.
