Can hypokalemia cause difficulty breathing?
Disease description:
I've been experiencing difficulty breathing during exercise these past few days, and I'm worried it might be hypokalemia. Can hypokalemia cause difficulty breathing?
Hypokalemia generally does not cause difficulty breathing; however, if not treated promptly, it may affect the respiratory muscles and lead to symptoms such as dyspnea. Hypokalemia is usually caused by excessive sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. Patients are advised to improve their nutrition, consume more fresh fruits and vegetables to supplement vitamins, quit smoking and alcohol, and engage in regular outdoor physical exercise.
