Radiation cystitis is generally treatable. Mild cases of radiation cystitis are primarily managed conservatively with antibiotics, hemostatic agents, symptomatic treatment, and relief of bladder irritation symptoms. Severe radiation cystitis may require repeated treatments and sometimes surgical intervention. It is important to maintain smooth urination, drink plenty of water, and take sodium bicarbonate to alkalinize the urine and reduce urethral irritation. Additionally, therapies such as heat treatment and warm water sitz baths can help relieve bladder spasms.
