What foods should be avoided with dry eye syndrome?
Disease description:
Feeling that my eyes are dry every day and tear up easily, I went to the hospital and found out it's dry eye syndrome. I want to know what foods should be avoided with dry eye syndrome.
Patients with this condition should avoid spicy foods, as such foods can increase internal heat, easily deplete vitamin levels in the body, worsen nutritional imbalances in dry eye patients, and impair corneal nutrition. They should also avoid irritants such as tobacco and alcohol, and refrain from staying for long periods in dry or humid-hot environments. Keeping the eyes in a moist environment helps improve ocular symptoms. It is advisable to consume more dietary fiber, vegetables, and fruits to maintain regular bowel movements and prevent worsening of dry eye syndrome.
