What is the difference between adenomyosis and uterine fibroids?
Disease description:
I have uterine fibroids, but I just learned about adenomyosis, which seems similar. I'd like to ask, what's the difference between adenomyosis and uterine fibroids?
Adenomyosis and uterine fibroids differ in terms of tumor components, pathogenic mechanisms, types of dysmenorrhea, affected anatomical sites, and outcomes of conservative surgical treatments. Adenomyosis is a form of endometriosis, characterized by the invasion of endometrial tissue into the myometrium, whereas uterine fibroids result from the proliferation of smooth muscle cells in the uterine wall. Patients with these conditions also exhibit different symptoms and clinical presentations.
