How long a patient with pancreatitis must wait before drinking alcohol depends on the severity of the condition and the recovery progress. If acute pancreatitis is treated effectively, it may be acceptable to consume a moderate amount of alcohol after 6 to 9 months. However, excessive drinking or binge eating should be avoided, as alcohol can easily damage the pancreas or its cells and increase pressure in the pancreatic ducts, leading to recurrence of pancreatitis. Patients are advised to avoid overeating and to refrain from strong tea, alcohol, coffee, and similar stimulants.
