Causes of hypocalcemia in pancreatitis
Disease description:
My friend went to the hospital for a checkup three days ago, and the doctor told him he has pancreatitis with low calcium. He wants to know the causes. What are the reasons for low calcium in pancreatitis?
The causes of hypocalcemia in pancreatitis generally include pancreatic juice leakage and destruction of pancreatic cells. During pancreatitis, excessive secretion of pancreatic juice or damage to pancreatic cells may lead to leakage of pancreatic fluid, which activates lipase and promotes fat breakdown into fatty acids. These fatty acids readily bind with calcium in the blood to form calcium soaps, potentially resulting in hypocalcemia associated with pancreatitis.
