Why does eating tomatoes cause pain with mouth ulcers?
Disease description:
Recently, I developed a mouth ulcer. Today at noon, I ate some tomatoes and it hurt a lot. Why does this happen? Could you please explain why eating tomatoes causes pain when having a mouth ulcer?
Under the stimulation of food, the sour and astringent taste of certain foods can irritate the ulcerated surfaces in these patients. When the condition is severe, patients should avoid direct contact between food and the ulcer site while eating. Drinking plenty of water, ensuring adequate sleep, moderately supplementing vitamins, and consuming more vegetables and fruits can help improve and prevent oral ulcers. Patients may use Xigua Shuang (Watermelon Frost) for treatment; however, if symptoms persist for an extended period without relief, medical attention at a hospital is necessary.
