Symptoms of ascites during pregnancy
Disease description:
Today, when I accompanied my wife to the hospital for her prenatal checkup, the doctor mentioned that ascites can commonly occur during pregnancy. What are the symptoms of ascites in pregnancy?
Pregnancy-related ascites usually causes adverse symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, chest tightness, and shortness of breath. This primarily occurs because ascites increases intra-abdominal pressure. If the pregnant woman's ascites is caused by cirrhosis, she may also develop jaundice of the skin and sclera. Some patients may additionally experience fatigue and loss of appetite.
