Disease description:

I've felt discomfort at the tip of my penis for the past few days, with itching and swelling. I looked it up online and it seems like balanitis. I'd like to know how long it usually takes to recover from balanitis?

The recovery time for balanitis may vary depending on factors such as the severity of the condition, the type of infection, and individual physical constitution. Generally, balanitis caused by bacterial infections can be cured within 7 days with regular anti-infective treatment. For candidal balanitis, a 10-day course of antifungal therapy is usually sufficient for cure. In cases of trichomonal balanitis, oral metronidazole is recommended, and taking it continuously for 7–10 days can achieve cure. For non-infectious causes of balanitis, such as friction, oral medication is generally not recommended; maintaining daily hygiene typically leads to recovery within 5–7 days. If the balanitis is severe or has progressed to chronic balanitis, treatment becomes more difficult and the duration of illness is longer, sometimes requiring 1–2 months or more to bring under control.
