What causes pearly penile papules?

Pearly penile papules, also known as hirsuties papillaris genitalis, primarily appear along the corona of the glans penis in males. The exact cause is not fully understood, but it is generally believed to be associated with phimosis, redundant prepuce, and long-term chronic irritation due to poor local hygiene. This benign condition does not cause significant discomfort or functional impairment, and in some patients, the lesions may resolve spontaneously over time. However, if predisposing factors such as redundant prepuce are present, circumcision is recommended to eliminate local irritants and help improve symptoms. The development of pearly penile papules may involve multiple factors, including anatomical structure and hygiene practices.
