The period considered safe for avoiding pregnancy is generally determined based on a woman's menstrual cycle.

1. Pre-safe phase: From the end of menstruation to the beginning of ovulation, approximately 8 days. During this time, ovarian follicles are developing but no dominant follicle has matured and been released. Additionally, the uterine lining is still thin, making it unfavorable for embryo implantation. This phase is therefore called the pre-safe phase.

2. Post-safe phase: The period from the end of ovulation to the start of the next menstruation, lasting about 7 days. At this stage, no egg is available for fertilization, hence it is referred to as the post-safe phase.

The safe period generally includes the 7 days before menstruation begins and the 8 days after menstruation ends. However, the safe period is not absolutely reliable, as a woman’s ovulation can be influenced by emotions, external environment, climate, health status, and other factors, causing it to occur earlier or later than expected. Therefore, for individuals who do not wish to become pregnant, it is advisable to use effective contraceptive methods such as oral contraceptives, condoms, or intrauterine devices (IUDs).
