There is a close relationship between bad breath and Helicobacter pylori. When an H. pylori infection occurs in the oral cavity or gastrointestinal tract, it may trigger halitosis. Specifically, H. pylori colonizes the gastric mucosa and produces toxic factors such as urease, which weaken the antibacterial capacity of gastric acid, leading to dysbiosis of oral microbiota and consequently causing bad breath. In addition, H. pylori infection may also cause gastrointestinal diseases such as gastritis and gastric ulcers, which are common underlying causes of halitosis. It should be noted that bad breath is not solely caused by H. pylori infection; it can also be associated with various other factors including oral diseases (such as gingivitis and periodontitis), unhealthy lifestyle habits (such as long-term smoking, alcohol consumption, and poor dietary patterns), and psychological factors (such as excessive stress and mental tension). To effectively prevent and treat halitosis, it is recommended to maintain good oral hygiene, avoid unhealthy lifestyle habits, and seek timely medical evaluation when symptoms occur to identify the underlying cause and receive appropriate, targeted treatment.
