Why is there redness after the scab from shingles falls off?
Disease description:
I had shingles a few days ago. After the scabs formed and fell off, the skin became somewhat red. May I ask what could be the reason?
After the scabs of herpes zoster fall off, redness of the skin might be caused by multiple factors. Usually, this is a normal phenomenon during the skin's recovery process, where the new skin has not fully developed. Over time, the skin color will naturally return to normal, and no special treatment is required. It could also be caused by mild skin inflammation. During the recovery period, even after the scabs have fallen off, skin redness might persist if there is local inflammation present. In such cases, applying some anti-inflammatory medications, such as acyclovir cream or clindamycin phosphate gel, may help alleviate the symptoms. Pigmentation is another possible cause. Skin diseases caused by the herpes zoster virus may lead to skin pigmentation, resulting in a reddish appearance. In such cases, skincare products such as aloe gel or urea vitamin E cream may be used to help fade the pigmentation.
