How can I quickly eliminate chilblains?
I get chilblains every winter for the past few years. I would like to know how to quickly eliminate chilblains once they develop?
In treating chilblains, the primary principles are to keep warm and promote blood circulation. Once chilblains are detected, the affected individual should be moved immediately to a warm environment to avoid further cold exposure. For mild cases of chilblains, the following measures can be adopted to accelerate recovery:
1. Medication: In the early stages of chilblains when the skin remains intact, topical preparations such as mucopolysaccharide sulfates cream or vitamin E cream may be used. If the chilblain area becomes ulcerated, topical antibiotics such as erythromycin ointment or mupirocin ointment can be applied to prevent infection.
2. Oral medication: In more severe cases, oral medications such as nifedipine and niacinamide may be prescribed to dilate blood vessels and alleviate symptoms.
3. Warm water immersion: Immerse the affected area in warm (not hot) water at a temperature between 37°C and 40°C to help relieve pain and promote circulation.
4. Local protection: Apply moisturizing creams or vaseline to the affected area to prevent dryness, and cover with soft fabric to reduce friction.
5. Promote blood circulation: Gently massage the healthy skin surrounding the chilblain area, avoiding direct massage on the chilblain itself, to enhance blood flow.
6. Prevent recurrence: Take additional warming precautions, such as wearing warm clothing, especially gloves and socks, and avoiding dampness.
If chilblains are severe, accompanied by ulcers or signs of infection, prompt medical attention should be sought.
