Hello, contraceptives are categorized into short-term and long-term (i.e., emergency) contraceptives. Short-term oral contraceptives should be started on the fifth day of menstruation—take one dose (two pills) daily for 21 consecutive days. In contrast, long-term (emergency) contraceptives must be taken on an empty stomach within 72 hours after unprotected intercourse; the earlier they are taken, the higher the contraceptive efficacy.
