Disease description:

I originally had some sunspots on my face, and since becoming pregnant, I’ve developed additional melasma (chloasma). My face now looks as if I haven’t washed it! A neighbor suggested that mugwort (Artemisia argyi) can lighten these spots—Is this true?

Hello, mugwort is actually a traditional Chinese herbal medicine primarily used to dispel cold, warm the meridians, promote circulation, and resolve blood stasis. Clinically, it may help reduce nodules, small red spots, and inflammation—largely by improving local microcirculation, thereby enhancing metabolism and gradually lightening hyperpigmented spots. However, mugwort is not specifically indicated for localized spot removal. Rather, its benefits for pigmentation rely on combined systemic and topical application to activate blood circulation and resolve stasis, thereby improving microcirculation and accelerating the metabolism and fading of pigmented spots. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you a happy and healthy life!
