What should I do if I have excessive internal dampness, itchy skin, and red bumps?
Excess dampness in the body can cause itchy skin and red, raised rashes. Treatment can be approached from three aspects: daily diet, physical activity, and living environment.
Diet: Maintain a light and moderate diet. Ingredients such as adzuki beans, coix seed (Job’s tears), Chinese yam, buckwheat, kudzu root, poria, and foxtail millet all enter the Spleen, Stomach, and Kidney meridians, helping to strengthen the Spleen, resolve dampness, and tonify the middle burner and Qi. These foods may be consumed regularly. However, alcohol, barbecued or greasy foods should be limited, as they are difficult to digest and may impair Spleen and Stomach function. Cold- and cool-natured foods may suppress gastrointestinal digestion and absorption and thus should also be avoided.
Physical Activity: Regular exercise helps stimulate Yang Qi and accelerates the elimination of dampness. Suitable activities include brisk walking, swimming, yoga, and Tai Chi.
Living Environment: Damp and cold environments predispose the body to invasion by external dampness; therefore, such environments should be avoided whenever possible.
