Introduction
Tinnitus following nose-blowing may result from excessive force during nose-blowing, causing abnormal patency of the Eustachian tube (auditory tube), which connects the nasopharynx and the middle ear cavity. If tinnitus occurs due to overly forceful nose-blowing, immediately discontinue nose-blowing and attempt relief using techniques such as the “open-mouth method,” the “Valsalva maneuver” (pinching the nose while gently blowing with the mouth closed), or gentle pressure on the external auditory meatus with the palm of the hand. If no hearing loss is present, medications such as oryzanol may be used under medical guidance to alleviate tinnitus.

Tinnitus following nose-blowing may result from excessive force applied during the act, causing abnormal opening of the Eustachian tube (auditory tube), which connects the nasopharynx to the middle ear cavity. Typically, tinnitus can be alleviated using the following methods:

1. Yawning Technique: Open your mouth wide and perform swallowing or drinking actions. Alternatively, slowly open your mouth into an “O” shape until a full yawn is achieved. If the first yawn fails to relieve symptoms, repeat the process. Once pressure equilibrium is restored, the sensation of ear blockage will subside.

2. Valsalva Maneuver: Take a deep breath, close your mouth tightly, pinch your nostrils shut, hold your breath, and gently attempt to exhale against the closed airway. When you feel a sensation of fullness in your throat and ears—and when airflow passes from the nasal cavity and nasopharynx through the Eustachian tube into the middle ear—the symptoms should improve.

3. Palmar Compression Technique: Press your palms firmly against your ears and rhythmically apply and release pressure. This manual compression helps stimulate Eustachian tube activity and restore pressure balance between the ear and nose.

4. Pharmacological Treatment: If tinnitus persists for an extended period, prompt medical evaluation—including audiological testing—is recommended. In cases where no hearing loss is detected, neurotrophic medications such as oryzanol and mecobalamin may be prescribed per physician guidance to alleviate tinnitus symptoms.
