Introduction
Neurogenic gastric spasm may cause discomfort symptoms such as abdominal pain and nausea. It is usually caused by consuming raw, cold, or irritating foods, overeating, or underlying conditions such as gastritis and gastrointestinal ulcers. It may also result from the stomach being exposed to cold. Typically, distinct pain occurs in the upper abdomen and appears intermittently, possibly accompanied by symptoms such as vomiting, acid reflux, fever, and heartburn.

Neurogenic gastric spasm is commonly triggered by consuming raw, cold, or irritating foods; overeating; or underlying conditions such as gastritis or gastrointestinal ulcers. It may also result from gastric exposure to cold—allowing cold air to enter the body and induce contraction of gastric smooth muscle. This intense muscular contraction leads to heightened tension in the gastric nerves. Patients typically experience distinct, intermittent pain in the upper abdomen, often accompanied by vomiting, acid reflux, fever, and heartburn.

If symptoms are mild, specific medical treatment is usually unnecessary. Drinking warm water and performing gentle abdominal massage often help alleviate symptoms. For more severe cases, antispasmodic and analgesic medications—such as anisodamine tablets or atropine tablets—may be prescribed under a physician’s guidance. Dietary modifications are essential: avoid spicy, stimulating foods—for example, hotpot with chili and Sichuan peppercorns, ice cream, and other similar items.
