Introduction
The intestines are generally located in the abdominal region of the human body. The intestine can be divided into the large intestine and small intestine. The small intestine is situated around the navel. The large intestine consists of the transverse colon, ascending colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, and rectum. The ascending colon and cecum are located from the right lower abdomen to the right middle and upper abdomen; the transverse colon lies in the upper middle abdomen; the sigmoid colon is in the left upper abdomen; and the descending colon and rectum are positioned in the left lower abdomen.

The intestines are generally not located on the left or right side of the human body but rather in the central region of the abdomen.

The intestines are part of the human digestive system. Under normal conditions, intestinal peristalsis aids digestion and nutrient absorption from food, while residual waste products and toxins are eliminated through the intestines to maintain the body’s normal physiological circulation. The intestines are typically situated centrally within the abdomen and are anatomically divided into the large intestine and small intestine. The small intestine is generally located around the umbilical region. The large intestine comprises the ascending colon, transverse colon, descending colon, sigmoid colon, cecum, and rectum. Specifically, the ascending colon and cecum occupy the right lower quadrant extending upward to the right mid- and upper abdomen; the transverse colon lies primarily in the upper central abdomen; the sigmoid colon is mainly situated in the left upper quadrant; and the descending colon and rectum are predominantly located in the left lower quadrant.

Abdominal distension following meals can often be alleviated by gently massaging the central abdominal area in a clockwise direction, thereby stimulating gastrointestinal motility and enhancing digestion and absorption—typically helping to relieve associated discomfort.
