Introduction
The evaluation of male infertility should include the following medical history, with emphasis on sexual history, previous reproductive history, trauma and surgical history, and exposure to radiation. Physical examination should primarily assess for developmental abnormalities, presence of genital malformations, position of the testes in the scrotum, size and consistency of both testicles, penile development, and distribution of pubic hair. Semen analysis should be performed to evaluate male fertility potential.

Many couples fail to achieve pregnancy after marriage. The inability to conceive is not always due to female factors—men can also have infertility issues. Therefore, both partners should undergo medical examinations. However, some men are unsure what tests they need. What physical examinations should be performed for infertile men?

What Physical Examinations Should Be Performed for Infertile Men?

For male infertility, the following medical history should be evaluated: sexual history, previous reproductive history, trauma or surgery, and exposure to radiation. A physical examination should focus on identifying any developmental abnormalities, including the presence of malformations. The examination should assess whether both testes are located in the scrotum, their size and texture, penile development, and pubic hair distribution. Semen analysis should also be conducted to evaluate male fertility.

A color Doppler ultrasound of the scrotum should also be performed to evaluate the size of both testes and detect the presence of varicocele. Hormonal testing includes testosterone, follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), and prolactin levels. Antisperm antibody testing helps rule out immunological infertility.

Infertile men should also eliminate unhealthy lifestyle habits. Long-term smoking and alcohol consumption, chronic sleep deprivation, and prolonged exposure to polluted or radiated environments may lead to abnormal sperm. Regular physical exercise and a diet rich in zinc are recommended. We hope this information is helpful. Wishing you good health and happiness.
