What Are the Symptoms of Oral Candidiasis?

Oral candidiasis often affects the buccal mucosa, soft palate, tongue, and gums, but may also involve the throat, esophagus, and trachea. It appears as grayish-white membranes on the mucosal surface, with well-defined borders and surrounding areas. The lesions may be red, scattered, or coalesce into larger patches. The pseudomembrane can be scraped off, revealing a red, moist underlying surface that may bleed slightly or appear eroded.

Candidal cheilitis presents as central erythema with bright red erosions, surrounded by hyperkeratosis and surface desquamation, resembling leukoplakia. It may also manifest as angular cheilitis, affecting one or both corners of the mouth, characterized by maceration, erosion, or crusting. Active antifungal treatment is necessary for oral candidiasis. Maintaining good oral hygiene during treatment is essential, including developing the habit of brushing teeth morning and night.

During treatment for oral candidiasis, avoid spicy foods such as chili peppers, and refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol. These substances contain irritants that can negatively affect oral health and potentially worsen the condition. We hope this information helps you. Wishing you good health and happiness.
