Introduction
Tips for breastfeeding: To master the correct feeding technique, proper positioning stimulates the baby's oral motor skills and facilitates sucking. Before breastfeeding, allow the baby to nuzzle or lick the mother's breast with their nose. The baby's scent and physical contact during breastfeeding can stimulate the mother's let-down reflex. The baby should be awake, showing signs of hunger, and have a clean diaper before feeding begins.

To ensure healthy growth and proper nutritional intake for newborn babies, many parents choose to breastfeed. However, incorrect feeding techniques may produce counterproductive results. So, what are the key points to keep in mind when feeding an infant?

Important Considerations When Feeding an Infant

Parents should pay attention to proper feeding practices to master correct breastfeeding techniques. The right posture stimulates the baby's oral motor skills and facilitates effective sucking. Before breastfeeding, allow the baby to nuzzle or lick the mother’s chest with their nose—this physical contact and familiar scent can stimulate the baby’s feeding reflex. The baby should be awake, showing signs of hunger, and have a clean diaper before feeding begins. The mother should also maintain a positive mood, as breastfeeding is influenced by multiple hormones. These hormones are directly or indirectly regulated by the hypothalamus, whose function is closely linked to emotional state. When a mother feels stressed or depressed, adrenaline secretion increases, reducing blood flow to the breasts and consequently decreasing milk production.

The most commonly used correct feeding position is the cradle hold. The mother bends one arm, placing the baby’s head in the crook of her elbow, positioning the baby so that the head is higher than the feet. The mother and baby’s chests and abdomens should be close together, with the baby’s mouth and nose aligned toward the mother’s nipple. The mother can use her fingers or both hands to support her breast. Using a scissor grip (placing fingers beneath the breast) can help guide the baby to latch properly. Try to include both the nipple and a large portion of the areola into the baby’s mouth to facilitate effective sucking.

Pay extra attention to the daily care of newborns, as infants have relatively weak resistance and lower immunity, making them more susceptible to illness. Providing appropriate protection helps babies grow up healthier. We hope this information has been helpful. Wishing you good health and happiness in life!
