Is it normal to have diarrhea after drinking porridge?
In general, diarrhea after drinking porridge is not normal, as consuming porridge typically does not cause diarrhea; the occurrence of diarrhea may indicate an underlying medical condition.
Porridge is made by boiling food and water together, making it easy to digest and beneficial for gastrointestinal function. It usually does not lead to diarrhea. However, if the porridge is contaminated or unclean, it may trigger diarrhea. Diarrhea is a symptom of disease—individuals with digestive system disorders may experience diarrhea, such as in chronic atrophic gastritis, infectious enteritis, intestinal tuberculosis, chronic bacterial dysentery, typhoid fever, and others. Additionally, endocrine or metabolic disorders can also lead to diarrhea, including hyperthyroidism, carcinoid syndrome, and diabetic enteropathy.
When diarrhea occurs, it is recommended to use medications that strengthen stomach function and aid digestion. Applying heat therapy may also help alleviate symptoms. These measures can prevent worsening of the condition and protect overall health.
