Introduction
Brownish vaginal discharge before menstruation is likely due to a small amount of blood mixed in the discharge. This may result from non-pathological factors such as ovulation, or be caused by conditions like cervical polyps, cervicitis, or bacterial vaginosis. Treatment options—including general management and medication—should be selected based on the specific underlying cause. In daily life, it's important to monitor changes in the menstrual cycle, wash the genital area with warm water regularly, and frequently change and clean underwear.

Brownish vaginal discharge before menstruation is considered to result from a small amount of blood mixed in the discharge. This may be due to non-pathological factors such as ovulation, or caused by conditions like cervical polyps, cervicitis, or bacterial vaginosis. Treatment options such as general management or medication depend on the underlying cause.

I. Non-disease Factors

During ovulation, or at the beginning and end of the menstrual cycle, a temporary drop in estrogen levels may lead to slight vaginal bleeding. Because the amount of blood is small, it often cannot be discharged directly from the body. Instead, it may oxidize within the vagina, turning brownish, and then exit with the vaginal discharge, causing the observed symptoms. This condition usually does not require treatment and resolves spontaneously after the particular phase ends.

II. Disease-related Factors

1. Cervical Polyps

When endometrial polyps grow large enough, they may rupture and cause bleeding. This can manifest as increased vaginal discharge containing blood streaks. Since there is a certain risk of malignant transformation in polyps, surgical treatment is recommended, such as hysteroscopic polypectomy, to confirm the nature of the tissue.

2. Cervicitis

When women suffer from gynecological conditions such as cervicitis, progressive damage to normal cervical structures may occur. This can lead to cervical tissue congestion and edema. During intercourse, local blood vessels may rupture, resulting in brownish vaginal discharge. Other symptoms may include dyspareunia (pain during sex) and increased vaginal secretion. It is recommended to follow medical advice and use medications such as Xiaomidian suppositories or Cefixime granules for treatment.

3. Bacterial Vaginosis

As pathogenic bacteria multiply, they may cause vaginal mucosal congestion and local petechiae (small bleeding spots). Friction during intercourse may irritate these swollen and congested areas, leading to mucosal rupture and bleeding, which may be expelled along with vaginal discharge. Symptoms may also include vulvar itching and a burning sensation. Treatment with medications such as Metronidazole suppositories or Tinidazole tablets is recommended. Sexual intercourse should be avoided during treatment.

In addition, premenstrual brownish vaginal discharge may result from other causes. If symptoms persist or are accompanied by itching, pain during intercourse, or other discomforts, prompt medical consultation is advised. In daily life, pay attention to changes in the menstrual cycle, clean the genital area with warm water regularly, and frequently change and wash underwear.
