Benefits and Application Method of Ginger-Partition Moxibustion on the Navel
Ginger-separated moxibustion on the navel offers benefits such as warming the spleen to stop diarrhea, warming the stomach to relieve vomiting, and dispelling cold to alleviate pain. Ginger is pungent and disperses wind-cold while harmonizing the stomach and stopping nausea. Mugwort leaf (Ai-ye) also has properties that dispel cold, helping to relieve vomiting caused by wind-cold invading the body and disturbing stomach qi, or vomiting due to dietary imbalance. The procedure involves placing a slice of ginger over the navel and applying moxa cones on top of the ginger. The specific steps are as follows:
1. Select a fresh, mature ginger root and cut it longitudinally along the fiber into slices approximately 1 cm thick. Use a needle to prick several holes in the ginger slice to facilitate heat conduction.

2. During moxibustion, place the prepared ginger slice over the selected acupoint (the navel), then position a large or medium-sized moxa cone on top of the ginger slice. Light the moxa cone using an incense stick. When the patient feels a burning sensation, slightly lift the ginger slice, pause momentarily, then continue moxibustion, or replace the moxa cone as needed.
3. Each session typically lasts 5–10 minutes. The treatment endpoint is indicated by moist, reddened skin at the site without blistering. Perform once daily, with 7–10 sessions constituting one course of treatment.
4. After completing the moxibustion, apply Zheng Honghua Oil to the treated area to prevent skin burns.
