Side Effects and Contraindications of Lincomycin
Side effects and contraindications of lincomycin mainly include gastrointestinal reactions, hematological reactions, allergic reactions, etc.
1. Gastrointestinal reactions
This drug can easily cause elevated bilirubin levels. Gastrointestinal reactions may occur following oral administration or injection. Symptoms are usually mild and mainly include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, gastric discomfort, and diarrhea. Other symptoms such as fever, thirst, and fatigue may also appear. Diarrhea may result from direct drug irritation or abnormal intestinal flora.
2. Hematological reactions
Lincomycin generally does not cause severe adverse effects on the blood system. However, a small number of patients may develop eosinophilia or thrombocytopenia.
3. Allergic reactions
Some patients may develop allergic reactions such as rash, urticaria, and angioedema after using the drug, and in severe cases, anaphylactic shock may occur. Main symptoms include itching, rash, and angioedema.
In addition to gastrointestinal, hematological, and allergic reactions, lincomycin may also cause jaundice, elevated liver enzymes, tinnitus, and dizziness. Long-term or high-dose use of lincomycin is not recommended; it should be used at prescribed doses under a doctor's guidance.
