Introduction
Large areas of bruising on the leg may be caused by trauma, varicose veins in the lower limbs, simple purpura, or other reasons, and usually require targeted treatment. If a patient experiences external force leading to soft tissue injury in the leg, it may result in local blood vessel rupture and cause extensive subcutaneous bruising. Similar symptoms can also occur in cases of lower limb varicose veins or simple purpura.

Large areas of bruising on the leg may be caused by trauma, lower extremity varicose veins, simple purpura, or other reasons, and usually require targeted treatment.

1. Trauma

If a patient experiences external force leading to soft tissue injury in the leg, it may cause local blood vessel rupture and result in extensive subcutaneous bruising. In such cases, local cold compresses can generally help promote absorption of the bruise.

2. Lower Extremity Varicose Veins

Prolonged standing may impair blood return in the lower limbs, causing blood to pool in the superficial veins. This increases venous pressure significantly and may lead to vein rupture and bleeding, resulting in large bruises on the leg. This condition can generally be improved by wearing compression stockings or performing leg muscle exercises.

3. Simple Purpura

If a patient has taken certain medications that impair platelet aggregation, it may trigger simple purpura, presenting with the aforementioned symptoms. Treatment typically involves taking medications such as vitamin C tablets or rutin tablets under a doctor's guidance.

In addition to the common causes listed above, such bruising may also be related to other factors, such as leukemia.
