Harm of Morning Fasting Exercise on the Human Body
Exercising on an empty stomach in the morning can cause various health issues such as hypoglycemia, gastrointestinal discomfort, and muscle injuries.
1. Hypoglycemia
Generally, upon waking in the morning, the body and digestive system are in a fasting state, as all food has been digested and absorbed overnight. For individuals with poor physical condition, engaging in intense exercises such as long-distance running or jumping rope on an empty stomach may lead to hypoglycemia. Exercise consumes large amounts of nutrients, and affected individuals may experience symptoms such as dizziness, pallor, nausea, and vomiting.
2. Gastrointestinal discomfort
After waking up in the morning, the stomach and intestines are typically empty. Immediately exercising can lead to conditions like reflux esophagitis—for example, causing acid reflux. During exercise, the stomach is stimulated, increasing gastric acid secretion, which may result in gastroesophageal reflux disease.
3. Muscle injury
When exercising on an empty stomach, individuals may forget to perform warm-up exercises. Skipping warm-ups is risky and can easily lead to muscle strains or cramps.
In addition, morning fasting exercise may also trigger arrhythmia. It is recommended that individuals consume carbohydrates about one hour before exercising, such as fruits, biscuits, or other easily digestible foods, to provide adequate energy.
