Is surgery helpful for sinusitis?
Sinus surgery is usually effective, but patients still need to undergo regular medical treatment after the procedure for gradual improvement of sinusitis.
For patients with sinusitis who do not respond well to conservative drug therapy, surgery is recommended to address pus accumulation within the sinuses. The primary goal of the surgery is to fully open the sinus openings and resolve blockages, thereby promoting drainage of pus from the sinus cavities. This effectively relieves symptoms such as nasal congestion and thick yellow nasal discharge, improves or restores the patient's sense of smell, and helps prevent intracranial or extracranial complications associated with sinusitis. After surgery, patients should continue antibiotic treatment under a doctor’s guidance—such as cefixime tablets or cephalaxin capsules—for consolidation and sustained recovery.
After surgery, patients should pay attention to their diet by consuming mainly light and bland foods, engage in appropriate physical exercise to enhance immunity, and reduce the risk of sinusitis recurrence.
