Are vertical forehead wrinkles a sign of heart problems?
Normally, the "Shuan" character wrinkle (vertical frown lines between the eyebrows) does not indicate heart problems.
The "Shuan" character wrinkle refers to a crease that forms between the eyebrows and eyes, resembling the Chinese character "川". It usually results from habitual frowning, excessive facial expressions, or aging-related loss of facial collagen. As collagen diminishes, these wrinkles gradually deepen, making a person appear constantly worried or stressed. Heart disease, on the other hand, is a common type of circulatory system disorder. The circulatory system consists of the heart, blood vessels, and neurohumoral tissues regulating blood flow. Abnormalities in this system are known as cardiovascular diseases, which mainly arise from developmental abnormalities during fetal stages or from external/internal factors after birth. Therefore, the presence of "Shuan" character wrinkles does not cause heart problems.
Heart problems may lead to symptoms such as palpitations, shortness of breath, coughing, hemoptysis (coughing up blood), chest pain, arrhythmias, abnormal pulse, and cardiac enlargement. If any discomfort occurs, it is recommended to promptly visit a hospital to determine the underlying cause.
