Introduction
Thirteen years old usually falls within the pediatric department's age range, as hospitals generally designate pediatrics for children aged 0 to 14. Since 13-year-olds are still considered children, and most hospital pediatric departments accept patients from 1 to 14 years of age, a 13-year-old experiencing physical discomfort can visit the pediatric department. Alternatively, depending on the specific symptoms presented by the 13-year-old, an appropriate specialized department may also be chosen for consultation.

Thirteen-year-olds usually should register with the pediatric department, as hospitals generally define the pediatric age range as 0 to 14 years old.

Since 13-year-olds fall within the childhood stage and the typical age range for pediatric services in hospitals is 1 to 14 years, they are eligible for pediatric care. If a 13-year-old experiences any health issues, they can visit the pediatric department. Alternatively, depending on specific symptoms, they may choose a more appropriate specialty: for example, respiratory internal medicine for upper respiratory tract infections, surgery for muscle strains or fractures, or gastroenterology for indigestion or abdominal discomfort.

If it's difficult to determine the appropriate department based on symptoms, patients can consult the hospital’s guidance desk accompanied by a parent, or visit the emergency department first. After identifying the underlying cause, they can then be directed to the relevant specialty for further diagnosis and treatment.
