How to treat rhinitis during pregnancy
During pregnancy, rhinitis can generally be treated through allergen avoidance, warm compresses, physical therapy, nasal irrigation, and intranasal corticosteroids.
1. Allergen Avoidance
If symptoms are triggered by exposure to allergens, it is essential to promptly remove oneself from the allergen and avoid further contact to prevent symptom recurrence or worsening.
2. Warm Compress
For rhinitis accompanied by nasal congestion and runny nose, applying a warm towel compress or gently massaging the nose may help improve local blood circulation and alleviate symptoms.
3. Nasal Irrigation
Nasal irrigation with normal saline can help flush out pathogens from the nasal cavity and relieve symptoms.
4. Intranasal Corticosteroids
In cases of severe rhinitis symptoms, intranasal corticosteroids may be used under a doctor's guidance, with careful consideration of risks and benefits based on symptom severity. These medications help reduce mucosal inflammation in the nasal passages and promote the repair of damaged ciliated epithelium, thereby improving symptoms. Commonly used drugs include budesonide nasal spray, fluticasone propionate nasal spray, and mometasone furoate nasal spray.
Due to the unique physiological state during pregnancy, in addition to active treatment, it is also important to consume plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables and engage in appropriate physical exercise to enhance immunity and support symptom relief.
